Jay R. Johnston graduated from The Columbus College of Art and Design in 1977 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in illustration.
As an acclaimed artist, Jay has received numerous first place, People’s Choice and Best of Show awards in art contests and shows. Twice, he was awarded first place in the Ohio Associated Press Awards.
He has received national acclaim for his paintings of The Ohio State University football scenes. He is noted for his intricate details that create a snapshot to freeze an event in a moment of time. He researches every detail to ensure its accuracy.
His paintings of the West and Native Americans have caught the attention of clients throughout the USA, selling for up to $11,000.00 at auctions. In 2010, Jay was chosen by the National Art Museum of Sports in Indianapolis, Indiana to exhibit his work in its international sports art exhibit. Only fifty pieces were selected from around the world.
Jay lives in his hometown of Marion, Ohio with his wife, Carmen. Much of his free time is spent in his studio, where he continues to create extraordinary and detailed works of art. Jay is most passionate about his work in the area of illustration, history and sport scenes. However, he also enjoys creating detailed portraits, animals, and some impressionistic work.
